Palm Desert, Ca

During a DUI checkpoint, held on December 17th, 2021, from 7:00PM to 3:00AM, in the area of Hwy 111 and Painters Path, three people were arrested for driving while under the influence, two people were arrested for outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants, and 11 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license and or suspended/revoked license. During the entirety of the checkpoint, 231 drivers were screened for possibly driving while under the influence.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

As businesses continue to reopen, including bars and restaurants, impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern. Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages the community to think of the safety of themselves, their families and others as making the right decision to not drink and drive, can save lives.
