Palm Springs, CA

Although the Palm Springs International Film Awards scheduled for January 7th through the 17th was cancelled this year due to the steep rise in Covid-19 cases, in December, it was announced that Lady Gaga was the recipient of the Icon Award for her performance in House of Gucci.

“To many Lady Gaga is an icon through her music, but she continues to impress audiences with her iconic acting roles. Following her memorable performance in A Star is Born, Lady Gaga yet again raises the bar in her portrayal of Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci, the shocking true story of the family behind the Italian fashion empire,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “For this tour-de-force performance, it is our honor to present the Icon Award to Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga took to her Instagram recently to acknowledge her award. Her full statement reads:

“Thank you so much to the #palmspringsfilmawards for the Icon Award. I dedicate this to all the beautiful communities who have come together for years to support a shared vision for kindness and bravery in the art of life.

We deconstructed iconography with a repetition of images that were broken—many individuals, and not just singular stories, but many stories of the lives of real people who deserve love and liberation. My icon is a mirror. My icon is you.”
