Rancho Mirage, CA

Famous actress, Vicki Lawrence, who played Mama on the Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978 and went on to star in her own spin off Mama’s Family, is coming to the Aqua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage on Saturday night, June 4th, beginning at 8:00pm.

Tickets start at $45.00 on the balcony and go up to $75 for Orchestra Front Rows 1 & 2 seats.

Lawrence, who was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her graduating class in Inglewood, California in her senior year of high school according to Agua Caliente Casino, “sent Carol Burnett a letter which included a local newspaper article mentioning their resemblance. Vicki invited Ms. Burnett to the local fire department’s “Miss Fireball Contest” in which she was performing.  Ms. Burnett, looking for an actress to play her kid sister on her new variety series, contacted Vicki and made arrangements to come to the event. The rest is television history.  “The Carol Burnett Show” premiered in the fall of 1967; the same year Vicki entered UCLA to study Theater Arts. She spent eleven years with Carol, earning one Emmy Award and five Emmy nominations. “

The first part of the show is primarily autobiographical where she explains how she met Carol Burnett and addresses other questions that many people ask her. After sharing her story and minutes of outtakes, Lawrence then comes out as her beloved character Mama.

“I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We’re creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There’s really nothing she can’t do,” she says. “I hope people will be pleasantly surprised by a side of Vicki they may never have seen.…I know they will be looking forward to Mama, and for her part, that crazy old gal will be up to the challenge.”

Agua Caliente Casino is located at 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. For more information on the show, click here.
