Sponsorships Requested To Bring French Cinema to Palm Springs

(Cinema Francais ’24 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center 2nd, 3rd and 4th February 2024)

Palm Springs, CA

Since the Desert Film Society began in 2002, its founder and executive director Beth Ellen Fromm has worked tirelessly to bring European Art House cinema to the Coachella Valley, presenting new global and independent films twelve months of the year. Out of the 250 films she views for consideration each year twenty four are screened at the Palms Springs Cultural Center and DFS membership continues to grow. With her dynamism, the cultural diversity and the fact that none of the films are scheduled to play in Palm Springs, Beth has made a significant mark with audiences enjoying a shared sense of community.

Being aware of her audiences special fondness for French language films and with the full support of Palm Springs Cultural Center, Beth curated the first French film festival in 2018 – CINEMA FRANCAIS PS and whilst Covid put the festival on recess we are delighted to share with you the sponsorship opportunities for Cinema Francais ’24.

Cinema Francais ’24 cannot go ahead without the necessary funds to purchase the films for screening, creating a new website, producing marketing material and accommodating related operational fees. Both Desert Film Society and the Palms Springs Cultural Center are separate non‐profit 501(c)(3) organizations and are sharing the cost of this festival and everyone else involved are volunteers. Therefore we would surely appreciate your support.

As it stands now, Beth has the films on hold, the Camelot Theater has the screening room reserved for the weekend and she has the support of both of us. A total of $12,000 is needed for Cinema Francais ’24 to become a happening. As European filmmakers, originally from London but now based full time in Palm Springs, we are helping Beth with Cinema Francais ’24 and are reaching out to ask for backing from film lovers and local businesses alike so as to keep CINEMA FRANCAIS PS alive and viable, at the height of the season.

And why is French cinema so popular? Well, French directors have always known how to perfect the art of entertainment. From love stories and comedies to family films, creative filmmakers often manage to walk the tightrope between serious and entertaining movies. Creating light, funny moments in moving dramas is true art and the French have that down pat.
