Joe Jackson Announces Run For Palm Springs City Council District 4

Palm Springs, CA

Joe Jackson, a twelve year resident of Palm Springs and the President of the Los Compadres Neighborhood Association, has announced that he is a candidate for the Palm Springs City Council District 4 seat being vacated by Christy Holstege in November. Jackson has previously served as Member and Chair of the City’s Sustainability Commission, 2012-2019; and on the Board of Directors of the Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus as Development Officer and President, 2012-2016. His love of the City of Palm Springs and desire to improve the quality of life of all residents inspired his candidacy.

Jackson’s background working in a large United Methodist Church in downtown Minneapolis for 24 years gave him experience in personnel, financial, and property management. In that role he met people of every political and economic stripe, and learned to listen to a wide variety of opinions, formulate consensus, and negotiate solutions to problems.

Jackson’s vision for the City and his tenure on Council is a City Hall more responsive to everyday citizens and business owners in their daily lives. Getting a building permit for a small project, or a license to open a new business, can be a long and arduous task. In 2022, as Jackson met District 4 residents in their homes and walked the sidewalks of Smoketree and Rimrock, these were oft cited concerns, along with the continuing homelessness issue. Continued strong enforcement of the city’s short term rental regulations is also a must for residents as most neighborhoods in District 4 are under the 20% cap as allowed.  As a Council member, Jackson would create a monthly District 4 newsletter and be available to the eight neighborhood organizations for their meetings to improve communication.

Jackson is also a supporter of the new Prescott Preserve. “This property, squarely in the center of District 4, will one day become an amazing central park, giving residents and visitors a natural oasis in the City,” he said.

Jackson has secured the endorsements of several key officials in Palm Springs:

Dr. Les Zendle, Desert Healthcare District Board

Greg Rodriguez, Housing and Workforce Solutions, Riverside County

Mark Marshall, Mizell Center Board

Brett Klein and Roy Clark, former Sustainability Commission Chairs

David Lahti and Rob McCann, Oswit Land Trust
