Palm Springs, CA
In a bold statement on Social Media, Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills issued a public warning to drivers treating city streets like racetracks, announcing an upcoming, large-scale operation targeting traffic violations across the city.
“People drive like @CityofPS is the Talladega raceway,” Mills posted on social media, referencing the infamous NASCAR track. He went on to reveal plans for a “massive dragnet” by the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) aimed at curbing dangerous driving behavior.
According to Mills, the operation will take place sometime within the next week and will include a “maximum deployment,” involving not only patrol officers but also command staff—including the chief himself.
“This is a full-scale effort,” Mills said, encouraging residents to spread the word. “We’ll be out ticketing speeders, red-light runners, and those who roll through stop signs.”
He added a touch of humor to his announcement with a reference to the film Talladega Nights, quoting Ricky Bobby: “We are just a big, hairy, winning machine.”
Chief Mills also noted he will be personally stationed at what he described as “hot spot #1,” indicating a significant enforcement presence in a high-traffic or high-violation area. “If you see me, say hi,” he wrote, further humanizing his public safety message.
