City of Palm Springs Reaches Settlement with Grit Development Over Plaza Theatre Access Rights

Palm Springs, CA

The City of Palm Springs announced today that it has reached a settlement agreement with Grit Development concerning access rights to the historic Plaza Theatre, marking a significant step forward in the restoration of the beloved downtown landmark.

The agreement resolves longstanding issues related to patio and easement access, paving the way for the completion of the Theatre’s restoration, which is expected to be finished in time for a grand reopening this fall.

“The City of Palm Springs is pleased to have reached a positive resolution with Grit Development regarding access rights to the historic Plaza Theatre,” said a City spokesperson. “From the beginning, the City’s focus has been on ensuring public safety while preserving one of Palm Springs’ most iconic cultural landmarks.”

City officials emphasized the importance of the Plaza Theatre to Palm Springs’ downtown revitalization efforts. Once reopened, the Theatre is expected to host world-class performances and events, contributing significantly to the local economy and cultural vibrancy. The restored venue will serve as a central feature in the city’s arts and entertainment district, projected to generate millions in economic impact.

“We thank Grit Development for their collaboration and ongoing investment in our community,” the City’s statement continued. “Together, we look forward to a revitalized Plaza Theatre that will benefit residents, visitors, and future generations.”

The Plaza Theatre, originally opened in 1936, has long been a cherished institution in Palm Springs. The City’s restoration project aims to return the venue to its former glory while enhancing its capacity to serve as a modern, multi-purpose cultural destination.

With the settlement now in place, final stages of construction and planning can proceed, allowing the Theatre to reclaim its role as a cultural and economic cornerstone of downtown Palm Springs.
