On Monday, May 5, long-term lanes closures begin on South Palm Canyon Drive and traffic will shift to the eastern side of the bridge. Demolition of the western bridge span is planned for May 12.
Traffic Impacts:
Monday-Friday |7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 24/7 lane closures and traffic control will begin Monday, May 5.
Crews will be working throughout the week in the roadway to set up long-term traffic control in preparation for the western bridge span demolition planned on Monday, May 12. This traffic control pattern will remain in place for the next 8 to 10 months during the western bridge span construction.
What To Expect:
•One lane open for traffic in each direction and traffic will be shifted to the eastern side of the bridge. • The outside southbound lane on S. Palm Canyon Drive provides access to businesses and the alternate route via E. Sunny Dunes. • No left turns at E. Sunny Dunes in both directions; right turns only. • The sidewalk on the western side of the street will be closed in the project area. Pedestrians must use the sidewalk on the east side. • SunLine bus stops 630 and 492 on Route 1 West Valley located near the intersection of S. Palm Canyon Drive and E. Sunny Dunes will be closed for the duration of the project. Please check sunline.org for alternate options. • The speed limit on S. Palm Canyon will be reduced to 40 MPH; traffic fines are doubled in construction zones. Please reduce speed and travel with caution in the construction area.
Please plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays. Businesses access will remain open during construction.
