Shooting and Ambulance Crash Close Stretch of East Vista Chino; Suspect in Stable Condition

Palm Springs, CA

A shooting and a subsequent ambulance crash disrupted traffic and prompted a multi-agency investigation Monday late morning on East Vista Chino.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD), a parole agent requested assistance at approximately 11:35 a.m. while attempting to detain an individual in the 2700 block of East Vista Chino. While officers were en route, the agent reported that a shooting had occurred.

Responding officers found the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect was placed in an ambulance with a firefighter and a police officer for transport to a local hospital. En route, the ambulance was involved in a vehicle collision at East Vista Chino and Sunrise Way, causing minor to moderate injuries to its occupants. The suspect was ultimately transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The parole agent was treated at the scene for injuries.

PSPD secured the scene and requested the Riverside County Sheriff’s Force Investigation Division (FID), which has assumed the investigation. The FID will issue a follow-up press release through the Riverside County Sheriff’s Media Information Bureau.

As of Monday afternoon, East Vista Chino remains closed between North Farrell Drive and North Gene Autry Trail until further notice.
