Palm Springs, CA
A highly anticipated appearance by filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner at the recently restored Plaza Theatre, scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, has been canceled following the sudden and tragic deaths of Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.
Reiner, 78, and Michele, 68, were found deceased in their Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon, December 14, law enforcement sources and multiple reports confirm. Their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered their bodies and emergency calls were placed to the Los Angeles Fire Department at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities later confirmed both had died in an apparent homicidal incident.
Initial reports indicate that police officers responded to the Brentwood-area residence and launched a homicide investigation. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody and is being held on suspicion of murder, according to law enforcement sources. Bail was set at $4 million.
Rob Reiner was expected to be the headline guest at the Plaza Theatre event, which would have featured a discussion and celebration of his decades of work in film and television. Reiner’s career spanned acting, directing, producing, and advocacy. He won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his role on All in the Family and directed such cultural touchstones as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, A Few Good Men, and The American President. Most recently, he directed the Emmy-nominated documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life and the follow-up to This Is Spinal Tap, titled The End Continues.
Michele Singer Reiner was known for her work in photography and as a producer, and the couple had been married since 1989. They are survived by their three children.
