Palm Springs, CA
The Palm Springs City Council will convene Wednesday, January 14, to consider a wide-ranging agenda that includes public safety infrastructure, affordable housing initiatives, land-use policy updates, and marketing efforts tied to a major downtown project.
Among the scheduled items is a presentation from Paul Alvarado, Palm Springs Fire Chief, who will provide an update on the design of future fire station facilities. The presentation is expected to outline progress, design concepts, and next steps related to improving the city’s emergency response infrastructure.
The Council will also review professional services agreements for branding and marketing associated with the Convention Center Connector Project, a long-planned effort intended to improve connectivity and wayfinding between downtown Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Housing remains a central focus of the meeting. Councilmembers will hold a public hearing on an appeal of a Planning Commission decision that approved an 82-unit, 100 percent affordable housing development proposed at 305 West San Rafael Drive. The outcome of the appeal will determine whether the project moves forward as approved or is modified.
In addition, the Council will consider adopting an urgency ordinance to update regulations governing accessory dwelling units and junior accessory dwelling units. The proposed changes are intended to bring local ordinances into compliance with current state housing laws.
The agenda also includes consideration of financial assistance and loan commitments for two separate affordable housing developments, which together would add 192 housing units to the city’s inventory.
Residents may attend the meeting in person, watch it live on the City’s YouTube channel, stream it through the City’s website, or view it on Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17.
