Demuth Park Construction Begins March 2 with Major Upgrades Planned

Palm Springs, CA

Construction on Demuth Park will begin on Monday, March 2, 2026, bringing more than $7.5 million in improvements to one of Palm Springs’ most popular parks. The project is expected to be finished by October 2026.

The project is led by the City of Palm Springs Engineering Services Department, working with the Parks and Recreation Department. City officials say the upgrades are the result of more than five years of planning.

The improvements are designed to make the park easier to use, safer, and more accessible for everyone. Funding comes from several sources, including Land and Water Conservation Fund grants, Measure J funds, Capital Improvement funds, and Quimby funds.

Planned upgrades include a new large dog park with ADA parking, a separate small dog park, and a new 165-space paved parking lot built on a former dirt lot. The project will also include paving the Community Center parking lot, fixing pavement and drainage in the Little League parking areas, and restoring sidewalks and walking paths.

Additional improvements include new ADA-compliant drinking fountains and the construction of a new restroom building.

“This project shows our long-term commitment to improving park access, safety, and amenities for residents and visitors,” said Nicholas Gonzalez, Palm Springs Parks and Recreation Director. He added that the upgrades will help Demuth Park continue to serve families, athletes, and pet owners for many years.

During construction, both dog parks at Demuth Park will be closed. Dog owners are encouraged to use the David H. Ready Palm Springs Dog Park, located behind City Hall at 222 N. Civic Drive.

The City says an official groundbreaking date will be announced soon. More information about the project can be found at EngagePalmSprings.com.
