Palm Springs Invites Residents to Apply for City Boards and Commissions

Palm Springs, CA

The City of Palm Springs is inviting residents, business owners, and students to apply for openings on several City Boards and Commissions, offering community members a chance to help shape decisions that affect the future of the city.

The application period opened March 1, 2026, and will remain open through April 30, 2026. Appointments are expected to be made by the Palm Springs City Council in June 2026.

City officials say the volunteer positions give people an opportunity to participate directly in local government by providing input on policies, programs, and community initiatives.

Several boards and commissions currently have vacancies. These include the Administrative Appeals Board, Palm Springs International Airport Commission, Architectural Review Committee, Historic Site Preservation Board, Human Rights Commission, Library Board of Trustees, Measure “J” Oversight Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Public Arts Commission, Sustainability Commission, and the VillageFest Board.

Each group plays a different role in helping guide city decisions. For example, the Architectural Review Committee helps evaluate building design projects, while the Historic Site Preservation Board focuses on protecting the city’s historic places. The Parks & Recreation Commission helps advise on parks and community programs, and the Sustainability Commission looks at environmental policies and long-term planning.

Residents interested in participating may apply for more than one board or commission. Applications will remain on file and may also be considered for any unexpected vacancies that occur through April 2027.

To qualify, applicants must live, work, or attend school within the City of Palm Springs. Applicants cannot currently be employed by the City of Palm Springs or have a pending application for city employment.

City leaders say they are looking for candidates who care about the community and bring useful experience, education, or knowledge to help the boards carry out their responsibilities. The city also encourages applicants who reflect the social, ethnic, and cultural diversity of Palm Springs.

Those interested can apply and find additional information at the city’s website: palmspringsca.gov/government/city-clerk/boards-and-commissions.

Questions about the process can be directed to the Office of the City Clerk at 760-323-8204 or by email at cityclerk@palmspringsca.gov.

City officials also note that all submitted applications are considered public records and may be subject to public disclosure.
