Palm Springs Dog Park to Temporarily Close for Maintenance, Pop-Up Parks Planned

Palm Springs, CA

The City of Palm Springs has announced a temporary closure of the David H. Ready Palm Springs Dog Park, located behind City Hall, as part of scheduled maintenance aimed at improving the park’s long-term condition.

According to the Palm Springs Department of Parks & Recreation, the dog park will be closed from March 30 through May 15, 2026 to allow for hydroseeding and extensive turf restoration. Officials say the work is necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and durable grass environment for both dogs and their owners.

Hydroseeding is a process that promotes healthy grass growth and helps repair worn areas, particularly in high-traffic spaces like dog parks. City officials emphasized that regular maintenance like this is essential to preserving the usability and safety of the park over time.

Pop-Up Dog Parks to Open During Closure

To ensure residents still have access to off-leash areas, the City will open two temporary “pop-up” dog parks starting the week of March 23, 2026, ahead of the closure.

The temporary locations will be:

These sites will provide alternative spaces for residents to exercise and socialize their pets while improvements are underway at the City Hall dog park.

Public Meeting Information

Additional details about the closure and temporary park plans will be presented at the upcoming Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. Community members are invited to attend either in person or virtually. Registration information is available through the City of Palm Springs website.

City officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation, noting that the improvements will help ensure the dog park remains a high-quality amenity for the community moving forward.
