Parking Improvements Set to Begin on Sunny Dunes Road in Palm Springs

Palm Springs, CA

A stretch of Sunny Dunes Road is set to see new parking improvements, advocated for by the local businesses, beginning April 30, as the City moves forward with upgrades designed to enhance accessibility and increase parking capacity in the area.

According to city officials, Public Works contractors will begin construction along the 600 and 650 blocks of East Sunny Dunes Road, where new diagonal parking stalls will be added. The project will roll out in phases, starting with concrete work to modify curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. This initial phase will also include the installation of ADA-accessible ramps to improve access for pedestrians of all abilities.

The second phase of the project is scheduled to begin May 1 and will focus on asphalt grinding, as well as adjustments to water valves and parking stall slopes to ensure proper drainage and functionality.

Despite the construction activity, Sunny Dunes Road will remain open throughout the project. City officials note that work will be limited to the immediate frontage areas of 600 and 650 East Sunny Dunes, and no significant disruptions to nearby businesses are expected.

The improvements come as part of ongoing efforts to support local businesses and improve infrastructure in the Sunny Dunes corridor, an area that has seen growing interest and activity in recent years.
