The Palm Springs Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured an 80-year-old Palm Springs resident earlier this month.

The collision occurred July 15 near Hermosa Drive and Vista Chino, police said. Following the crash, investigators from the department’s Traffic Division worked with the Coachella Valley Real-Time Intelligence Center (CVRTIC), drawing on investigative resources and technology to develop leads and identify the vehicle suspected of being involved.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 28, investigators served a search warrant in the 2300 block of Nicola Road in Palm Springs. During the search, investigators recovered evidence tied to the collision, including the suspected vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, 67-year-old James Schadlick of Palm Springs was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury.

Police said the case underscores the value of collaboration between the Traffic Division and CVRTIC, noting that combining investigative expertise with modern technology allowed investigators to identify the suspect vehicle, recover critical evidence and hold the suspect accountable.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Steve Sanders at (760) 323-8125. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP (7867).
