Palm Springs, CA
Set to take place on Wednesday January 10, 2024 at 11:30am on the Chino Drive median just off Palm Canyon Drive in the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood, the community is gearing up to witness the dedication of the “Red Dragon” sculpture, a creation by the renowned artist Delos van Earle.
Delos van Earle, the artist behind the “Jungle Red” sculpture in the nearby Warm Sands neighborhood, lent his talent to craft the “Red Dragon.” This artwork came to fruition through the initiative of the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization. The community sought a $5,000 neighborhood grant from the City of Palm Springs Public Arts Commission, presenting a vision of enriching the neighborhood with this sculpture.
The Public Arts Commission approved the program with the understanding that the neighborhood association would take on the responsibility of funding the remaining cost.

To fund their share of the project, the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization turned to their community’s distinctive character. They organized Modernism tours, showcasing the mid-century modern architecture that makes Old Las Palmas a beloved destination. The funds generated from these tours helped to fulfill their financial commitment to funding the sculpture.
This unique event, set to take place on the Chino Drive median just off Palm Canyon Drive, is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization, City Council members, and the Public Arts Commission. Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein and Mayor Pro Tem Ron deHarte, along with esteemed members of the Public Arts Commission, will be present to accept the gracious gift of the “Red Dragon” sculpture and officially dedicate this stunning piece of art.
