Palm Springs, Calif. –  The Palm Springs Power scored eight runs in the first two innings and received a dominant pitching performance from two arms for a 12-1 win over the Cal Highlanders. 

The Power controlled the ballgame from the start scoring three runs in the first inning. Aiden Taurek (St. Mary’s) hit a two RBI double to key the inning. 

The Power added onto the lead with five more runs in the second frame highlighted by an Ely Brown (Mercer) three run home run to right field. The Power have three long balls through ten games this season.

On the mound the Power needed just two arms. Zack Novis (St. Mary- KS.) tossed four innings allowing a run on just three hits in his start. 

Brenton Thiels (LA Tech) closed out the game with a near perfect performance tossing five innings of shutout ball with 13 strikeouts. He retired 14 batters in a row to start his outing and allowed just one baserunner. 

The Power also saw a strong catching debut from Angel Cortez (CSU Northridge.) Along with his excellent defense Cortez batted 2-2 with a triple and two walks. Dalton Thomas (St. Katherines) also reached three times including an RBI single.

The Power’s franchise winning streak now stretches to 28 games dating back to the 2023 season while Palm Springs moves to 10-0 on the 2024 season. 

Next up for the Power is a two game home set against CPCL foe the Inland Valley Legends starting on Friday at 7 PM. Friday is City of Rancho Mirage night at Palm Springs Stadium with all Rancho Mirage residents receiving free admission, food and a hat.
