Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power used a dominating pitching performance for a 10-1 win over the East LA Dodgers Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium. 

Conner Batzer (CSU San Bernardino) on his 20th birthday started on the mound for the Power tossing seven shutout innings. He struck out seven Dodgers and allowed just one hit. Batzer earned his second win of the season and now holds a 2.70 ERA. 

The Power gave Batzer early run support with three runs in the first. Cody Kashimoto (St. Mary’s) led off with a double and Mark Kirkland (Cal Baptist) drove in the first run. The Power added on two more with RBI singles from Aidan Perez (Cal State Northridge) and Dom Hughes (Kansas State) for a 3-0 Power lead after the first frame.

Palm Springs added on three more runs in the second inning highlighted by a Perez RBI single. Perez batted in a team best three runs with three hits on the evening. 

The Power offense finished the onslaught with another three spot in the sixth inning. Michael Gonzalez (LA Harbor College) scored on a passed ball, Derrick Houston (Utah Valley) came around to score a run and Perez tallied his third RBI of the game driving in Aiden Taurek (St. Mary’s) for a 10-0 lead.

Holden Phelps (Pitt) pitched in relief tossing two innings with five strikeouts to close out the 10-1 victory. 

The Power resume CPCL play Friday night at Palm Springs Stadium facing the San Diego Waves at 7 PM. The Power will host City of Palm Springs Night with all Palm Springs residents receiving free admission and food.

The Palm Springs Power are a summer collegiate baseball team playing all games at Palm Springs Stadium. The Power are a member of the California Premier Collegiate League and the league’s inaugural champions in 2023. Palm Springs has won nine league championships in 19 seasons of playing baseball in the desert dating to 2004.
