Another summer of fun has come to end at the Palm Springs Public Library. To celebrate our Summer Reading achievements there will be a finale event on Wednesday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m., it is FREE and all are welcome to attend.

Summer Reading began on June 10th and ended on Saturday, July 20th. The theme this year was Read, Renew, Repeat focused on sustainability, renewable resources, and being good stewards. Over the course of the six-week program over 500 people registered to participate and there were thirty-seven programs presented.  Each week participants checked in and received free books, courtesy of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library, and by reading and logging their time or books read could earn entries for the grand prizes. Kids, Teens, and Adults read for 2,299 hours and there were 1,678 books read to toddlers and early readers!

Each week at the programs door prizes were given to lucky attendees, which included gift certificates, merchandise and more, all generously donated by local businesses and organizations including:

1501 Gastropub, Ben & Jerry’s, The Best Bookstore in Palm Springs, Blaze Pizza, Boomers Palm Springs, Boozehounds, Cheeky’s, Clandestino, Desert Compost, Desert Hand Car Wash, Destination PSP, Eight4Nine, Elmers, Escape Room Palm Springs, Giuseppes, Guacamoles, Jersey Mike’s, Johannes, JW Marriott Desert Springs Palm Desert, Kaiser Grille Palm Springs, Low Desert Modern Mexican, Mary Pickford Theatre, McDonalds, Nature’s Health Food & Café, Old Spaghetti Factory, Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm Springs Cultural Center, Palm Springs Fine Men’s Salon, Palm Springs Power Baseball, Raising Cane’s, Shakey’s Pizza, Smoke Tree Greetings, Stater Bros. Markets, Swiss Donuts, Townie Bagels & Bakery Café, US Bank, Wabi Sabi, Willie’s Restaurant.

And, through the generosity of the Palm Springs Sustainability Commission and the Friends of the Palm Springs Library there is a variety of grand prizes that each participant had a chance to win. By checking in each week and by completing their reading goals each participant earned entry tickets to enter to win the Grand Prize of their choice; up to 12 tickets!  There are 8 bikes all with helmets and a bike lock plus an electric scooter, all courtesy of the Palm Springs Sustainability Commission. Other grand prizes that will be given away include: A Nintendo Switch, a PlayStation 5, a $100 Amazon gift card, a portable power station, a smart Thermostat and Air Quality sensor, a Tonies reading starter kit, a Sphero Mini Coding Robot Ball, a Little Tikes 3 in 1 Garden to Table Playset, and a few other items! The drawing for each prize will be LIVE and in-person at the finale celebration!
