Palm Springs, CA

The election results are in and with 100% of precincts reporting, Naomi Soto, who was backed by Palm Springs City Councilmembers Christy Holstege and Grace Garner, several Democratic clubs in Riverside County, along with local unions, won the election. A close second was Joe Jackson, followed by David Rios. Here are the election results:

Naomi Soto – 1,307 votes
Joe Jackson – 1,158 votes
David Rios – 931 votes
Ernest Cecena – 548 votes
Anna Nevenic – 349 votes

Soto, who served as a recent past Chair of the Measure J Oversight Commission took on a more progressive tone with her race. On her campaign website, she wrote, “Palm Springs is a fabulous city — but it’s not as fabulous as it could be if you’re on a fixed income. Or if you are recovering from an illness or surgery. Or if you are trying to access aging parks and library services. Or if you are a new parent. Or dealing with rising rents and inflated costs. The next Councilmember should strive to make the vision we all have for Palm Springs more accessible to residents no matter what district they live in.”

Soto will join David Ready, former City Manager, who ran unopposed for District 5.
