United States Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was sworn in today to serve a full six-year term in the U.S. Senate. Accompanied by U.S. Senator Alex Padilla on the Senate floor, Schiff officially began his term by taking the oath of office, marking a historic milestone in his Senate career.

“I am honored to serve Californians in the U.S. Senate, having now been sworn in for the full six-year term,” Schiff stated. “From the towering redwoods of the North to the fertile farmlands of the Central Valley, from the breathtaking beaches and deserts of the South to every community – large and small – in between, California is a big state with big dreams.”

Schiff emphasized his commitment to tackling major challenges, including increasing housing affordability, addressing the cost of living, creating a more inclusive economy, protecting the environment, and safeguarding democracy. “I am deeply grateful, profoundly hopeful, and more committed than ever to delivering for the Golden State. It is the honor of a lifetime,” he added.

Schiff’s swearing-in also highlights a unique chapter in Senate history. According to the U.S. Senate Historian, Schiff is the only Senator ever to take the oath of office three separate times in less than one month.

• December 9, 2024: Schiff was appointed to the Senate following Senator Laphonza Butler’s resignation and sworn in for the first time.
• December 19, 2024: He was sworn in again after California’s Secretary of State certified the results of a special election held to fill the remainder of former Senator Dianne Feinstein’s term.
• January 3, 2025: Schiff took the oath of office for the third time to commence his full six-year term following his general election victory in March 2024.
