Palm Springs, CA

Korakia Pensione, an undeniably charming retreat in Palm Springs with artistic roots, has unveiled its newest hotel room for 2025—the Churchill Suite. This addition pays tribute to the bond between Winston Churchill and Scottish painter Gordon Coutts, the villa’s original owner. Known for its blend of Mediterranean and Moroccan influences, Korakia was initially created by Coutts in the 1920s to capture the essence of his life in Tangier. Over the years, it became a haven for creative minds, including Hollywood legends like Rudolph Valentino and Errol Flynn.

Churchill, a close friend of Coutts, is rumored to have sought solace in Palm Springs, retreating to the property to paint the striking desert landscapes. The two men shared a passion for painting and intellectual exchange, and it was in this very space—the new Churchill Suite—that their creative spirits flourished. The suite, which is a testament to their friendship, features a king-sized bed, a 1924 wood-burning fireplace, and French doors leading to a peaceful library courtyard, providing a perfect setting to relax or reflect.

The Churchill Suite adds to Korakia’s collection of 28 bungalows, villas, and guesthouses, continuing the property’s legacy as a sanctuary for artists and creatives. Guests staying in the suite can experience the blend of history and tranquility that once inspired Churchill and Coutts.

Korakia Pensione remains committed to honoring its past, offering visitors a chance to experience art exhibitions, live performances, and wellness retreats. Whether drawn by Palm Springs’ iconic events like Coachella or by Korakia’s serene, artistic atmosphere, guests are invited to immerse themselves in the unique spirit that has made this property a treasured haven for creatives since the 1920s.
