Palm Desert, CA

Over the years, The Living Desert has grown and enhanced its offerings with special features that create magical displays.

The current nighttime exhibit is spectacular, with hundreds of hand-painted, large-scale lanterns of actual and imaginary creatures and situations. Anyone planning to attend should consider bringing a camera to record the glowing colors and the extraordinary creations.

This is a family friendly event and offers the chance to experience a wide range of displays, including those representing the beauty of nature, giant colorful birds, and creatures from the prehistoric past, plants and animals from our world and representations from the Chinese Zodiac.  There are dozens of interactive installations and the popular “magic” smoke bubbles.

Food is also available, with Asian specialties and American family favourites. Specialty cocktails can also be purchased. The abundant parking is free.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens was founded by visionaries over 50 years ago. It is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo and botanical garden.   The large property encompasses desert environments that replicate those of North America, Australia, and Africa.   The complex has more than 150 species, 1,200 protected acres, and miles of hiking trails.

Glow in the Park is presented by the City of Palm Desert and sponsored by Visit Greater Palm Springs.

The Living Desert is located at 47000 Portolla Avenue, Palm Desert.

The event runs until April 27, from 6:30 to 10:00 pm. Advance reservations are required and can be made at LivingDesert.org.
