Palm Springs, CA

A powerful 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near San Diego at 10:08 a.m. Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake’s epicenter was located about 1.86 miles northeast of Julian, CA in San Diego county, and was widely felt across Southern California.

Residents from San Diego to Los Angeles and as far east as Palm Springs reported significant shaking, prompting emergency phone alerts and concerns over potential aftershocks. While early reports indicated a magnitude of 6.0, updated measurements from the USGS have confirmed the quake registered at 5.2.

If you felt the quake, you weren’t alone. Authorities are encouraging residents to report their experience to the USGS and to be prepared for possible aftershocks throughout the day.
