Palm Springs, CA

The Palm Springs City Council will take up a full slate of community matters at its upcoming meeting on Wednesday, September 10, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.

Among the items on the agenda are two proposed Mills Act preservation agreements, which would provide tax benefits in exchange for the ongoing preservation of historically significant properties. The agreements under consideration involve one unit in the Country Club Estates Historic District and another in the Ocotillo Lodge Historic District, both recognized as important pieces of Palm Springs’ architectural heritage.

Councilmembers will also discuss the relocation of public art installations, including moving the Impossible Chair sculpture to Downtown Park and the Intersecting Cubes piece to Sunrise Park. These moves are designed to ensure greater public visibility and integration of art into community spaces.

In addition, the Council will review potential changes to the Palm Springs Municipal Code with the introduction of an Urgency Ordinance. The ordinance aims to clarify how and when Councilmembers may review decisions made by city boards and commissions, streamlining governance and oversight procedures.

The meeting will also cover updates on the Palm Springs Convention Center Modernization Project, an initiative focused on enhancing the facility’s ability to serve residents, visitors, and the city’s tourism-driven economy.

Residents are encouraged to participate either in person or through live broadcast options. The meeting can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel, at palmspringsca.gov, or on Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17.
