Palm Springs, CA

Thousands of residents from across the Coachella Valley gathered this weekend for coordinated “No Kings Day” rallies, marking a major peaceful demonstration in support of democracy and opposition to authoritarianism.

According to event organizers, the rallies were intended as “a reminder that America rejects authoritarian rule.” Crowds assembled in Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, and Indio, with participants waving American flags, holding signs calling for unity, and emphasizing civic engagement ahead of the upcoming election season.

In Palm Springs, the rally at Sunrise Park lasted about an hour and a half, featuring a lineup of speakers who urged continued public participation in the democratic process. The event concluded around 5:30 p.m., as attendees slowly filed out of the park following the final remarks. Although speakers consistently criticized former President Donald Trump and his policies, the atmosphere remained largely positive and upbeat, with a focus on shared values and peaceful civic expression.

Palm Springs Chief of Police Andy Mills praised the peaceful tone of the demonstrations, writing on social media, “Thank you Palm Springs! Thousands of neighbors came together to peacefully gather, and exercise their First Amendment rights. There were ZERO problems. I saw a lot of kind, caring and patriotic Americans, many progressives and some conservatives, being great Americans.”

Chief Mills also extended his gratitude to law enforcement personnel who ensured public safety, adding, “Special thanks to Lieutenant Michael Torres for planning and leading the security team and your officers, all working their day off to protect the crowd.”
