Scoop Shop Program Shares Proceeds with Human Rights Partner: Migrant Justice
Palm Springs, CA
Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop fans can recognize the smell a mile away. It’s not simply caramelized sugar. There are notes of vanilla enveloped in a sugar-cookie toasty goodness that emanates from a thin waffle being toasted to a golden-brown perfection. There’s just no ice cream cone that can compete with a freshly baked, hand-rolled waffle cone at your local Ben & Jerry’s at 110 S Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
Waffle cones will again help Ben & Jerry’s raise awareness and funds for an impactful, farmworker-led human rights organization this fall. From Tuesday, October 21 through Tuesday, November 4, Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops across the country will participate in the two week-long “Waffle Lotta Good” initiative, an annual endeavor that supports organizations aligned with our core values.
This year, for every waffle cone that fans scoop up, Ben & Jerry’s will donate $1 to support Migrant Justice (MJ). MJ’s industry leading “Milk With Dignity” effort is an independent, farmworker-led human rights program which works with farmers and farmworkers to ensure dignified working conditions on dairy farms. Celebrating 8 years as a partner of Ben & Jerry’s, Migrant Justice’s mission is “to build the voice, capacity, and power of the immigrant farmworker community to organize for economic justice and human rights.” “Immigrant farm workers sustain the dairy industry, yet we are being targeted, detained, and separated from our families,” said Migrant Justice spokesperson Olga Cruz. “This partnership with Ben & Jerry’s allows Migrant Justice to continue organizing to defend and protect our community.”
Ben & Jerry’s independently owned and operated Scoop Shops like the one here in Palm Springs, are no stranger to getting involved in their communities to address local needs. In fact, Jason and Allison Ackley feels the company’s Social Mission is a key ingredient that allows them to best support their community. In 2024, the Waffle Lotta Good effort drove a $150K donation to the national advocacy group Black Voters Matter.
“The Waffle Lotta Good campaign creates another way for our fans to take action, get involved with our activism work and support migrant communities whose rights are being violated across the country. Supporting organizations like Migrant Justice is a critical intervention to ensure the rights and dignity of all our community members are respected and upheld” said Palika Makam, Ben & Jerry’s U.S. Activism Manager.
So, join the effort to do a Waffle Lotta Good in Palm Springs. Supporting human rights and dignity has never been so sweet. To find out more about the program, visit benjerry.com/wafflelottagood.
