Palm Springs, CA

A wave of color and pride filled the Arenas Business District on Friday night as the Palm Springs community gathered for the inaugural Flag Raising Block Party, marking the official dedication of the city’s new LGBTQIA+ flagpole.

The permanent art installation features the original Gilbert Baker–designed Pride flag, symbolizing unity, freedom, and equality for all. The landmark serves as a tribute to the activists who fought tirelessly for LGBTQIA+ rights and as a reminder of Palm Springs’ enduring commitment to inclusivity.

Mayor Ron deHarte, community leaders, and residents joined together to dedicate this lasting tribute to love, activism, and inclusion—celebrating 40 years of Pride in Palm Springs while looking ahead to a future that shines bright for generations to come. Organizers said the event was not only a celebration of progress but also a statement of hope.

The new Arenas District flagpole is expected to become a permanent fixture for future Pride celebrations, community gatherings, and civic ceremonies, standing tall as a daily reminder of Palm Springs’ legacy of equality.
