The City of La Quinta is ushering in the winter season with a full lineup of festive events designed to bring the community together through art, culture, holiday traditions and even a little snow in the desert. From tree lightings to gingerbread workshops, residents and visitors alike will have plenty of ways to celebrate throughout December.
Casita Lighting Kicks Off the Season – December 3
The festivities begin on Wednesday, December 3, with the Annual Casita Lighting at the La Quinta Museum from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy hot chocolate under the evening sky while listening to live music from Mariachi Flor de Dahlia. The evening culminates with the ceremonial lighting of the museum’s Casita, a beloved local tradition that brings warmth and community spirit to the start of the holiday season.
Tree Lighting Ceremony Brings ‘Snow in the Desert’ – December 5
The city’s signature celebration, the La Quinta Tree Lighting Ceremony, will take place on Friday, December 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the La Quinta Civic Center.
This family-friendly evening promises a magical blend of holiday favorites, including snow play areas, train rides, live local performances and a festive appearance by Santa Claus. The countdown to the tree lighting remains one of the most cherished annual moments in La Quinta’s holiday celebrations.
Art on Main Street Returns – December 13
On Saturday, December 13, Old Town La Quinta will host Art on Main Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The open-air art fair features handcrafted jewelry, ceramics, fine art, textiles, woodwork, glass pieces and more. With local and regional artists showcasing their work, the event has become a seasonal highlight for art lovers and holiday shoppers looking for unique, handmade gifts.
Gingerbread Lane Spreads Holiday Magic – December 6, 13 & 20
The month rounds out with one of La Quinta’s most whimsical traditions: Gingerbread Lane at Old Town Artisan Studios, taking place on December 6, December 13 and December 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Now in its seventh year, Gingerbread Lane transforms the space into a festive village complete with a 17-foot Christmas tree, cookie decorating, ornament painting, live performances and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Families can stroll through elaborate holiday scenes and take part in activities that capture the charm of the season.
