The City of Palm Desert, in partnership with Friends of the Desert Mountains, is inviting residents to take part in a National Public Lands Day cleanup and park beautification event at Homme-Adams Park on Sunday, Feb. 1.

The morning will begin at 8 a.m. with a park bench dedication honoring the late Buford Crites, a former Palm Desert city councilmember recognized for his long-standing advocacy for local trails, parks, and open space.

Following the dedication, volunteers will participate in trail cleanup and general park maintenance efforts. Activities will include removing dead plants, trimming bushes and trees, hauling debris, and completing light grading throughout the park.

The event will also feature a volunteer appreciation lunch along with community partner and vendor booths, providing opportunities for residents to connect with local organizations involved in environmental conservation.

National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer event in the country focused on protecting and preserving public lands. City officials say the Palm Desert event underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and caring for the Coachella Valley’s unique and fragile desert ecosystem.

The cleanup will take place at Homme-Adams Park, located at 72500 Thrush Road in Palm Desert. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and support the effort.
