After more than five decades in business, one of El Paseo’s most familiar shops is preparing to close.
Tuverson & Co., owned by Sharon Tuverson, will close on May 30, 2026. Tuverson opened the store in 1974 and has run it for 52 years on El Paseo in Palm Desert.
The shop is known for selling high-quality home goods, including fine tableware, luxury linens, bedding, and bath items. Many customers visited the store when setting up wedding registries, buying gifts, or looking for beautiful items for their homes.
Sharon Tuverson’s granddaughter wrote,
“After more than five decades in business, she has made the difficult decision to close her doors. The store’s final day will be May 30, 2026.
Beyond her business legacy, she has also been a Palm Desert resident for those same 52 years. Generations of desert families have registered for weddings with her, purchased special-occasion gifts, and relied on her expertise in fine home goods. Her store has been part of the fabric of El Paseo since long before it became the luxury corridor it is today.”

When Tuverson first opened her shop in the 1970s, El Paseo looked very different. Over the years, the street grew into one of the Coachella Valley’s most famous shopping areas, filled with luxury stores, art galleries, and restaurants. Through all those changes, Tuverson & Co. remained a steady presence.

Sharon Tuverson has also lived in Palm Desert for those same 52 years. During that time, many desert families came to know her through the store. Some customers who registered for weddings years ago later returned to buy gifts for their children’s weddings.
For many people in the community, the shop became part of their family traditions.
The store built its reputation on carefully chosen products for the home and personal service. Customers often relied on Tuverson’s experience to help them pick the right table settings, linens, or special gifts.
As the closing date approaches, longtime customers are expected to stop by and thank Tuverson for the many years she served the community.
After 52 years on El Paseo, Tuverson & Co. will leave behind a lasting legacy as one of the businesses that helped shape Palm Desert’s famous shopping street.
