Construction is ongoing at the much anticipated Thompson Hotel, a Hyatt branded hotel located at 400 Palm Canyon Drive where the Uptown Design District meets Downtown Palm Springs. The website is also now live but is not accepting reservations as of yet.

According to a Hyatt Representative, the hotel is “expecting to open August 15, 2023,” however there is still quite a bit of construction needing to be completed, and the community has seen a multitude of delays on this project leaving many to wonder when the hotel will be ready to officially open.

Originally slated to be an Andaz Hotel back in 2015, the project has since been taken over by a Dallas based developer called the Hall Group who are working to complete the vision and new branding for the Thompson Palm Springs.

The resort will have an onsite restaurant, fitness center, two pools, spa, meeting facilities, and will be pet friendly. Their website more specifically describes a hotel that will, “bring a fresh spin to its rich cultural heritage, boasting an iconic midcentury modern design that embodies the Rat Pack-era style the neighborhood is famous for. This chic urban oasis will offer unique rooms, suites with private pools, and unrivaled amenities—available to locals and visitors alike—including a signature restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine helmed by an award-winning chef, two large outdoor pool venues, gourmet ice cream and coffee shops, plus wellness and fitness memberships”

In 2021, the Palm Springs City Council moved forwarded with legal action to force four stalled hotel projects which included the then Andaz Hotel at the time to see the “hotel projects to completion.” They cited that “these properties constitute a nuisance to their neighborhoods and to the community at large.”
