Palm Springs, CA
The Palm Springs Fire Department wishes all residents and visitors of Palm Springs a happy and safe “Fourth of July.” This year, due to the high rainfall, the naturally occurring vegetation growth is exceptionally tall and how dry. In order to prevent any unwanted injuries or fires, all FIREWORKS including “Safe and Sane” are illegal in Palm Springs.
Nationwide, on Independence Day, more fires are reported than on any other day of the year and more than twice as many as on an average day. In 2020 an estimated 20,000 fires started by fireworks were reported in the United States, with Emergency Departments treating over 10,000 firework related injuries, mostly to the hands, fingers, legs and eyes. “Safe and Sane” fireworks that are sold to the public only refer to fireworks that do not fly or explode such as sparkers, fountains, snake items, and ground spinners. Parents are often unaware that the tip of a sparkler burns at temperatures exceeding 1,200 degrees which can cause third degree burns. Children under 14 years of age accounted for 30% of all firework injuries.
To report any illegal fireworks within the City of Palm Springs please call 760-327-1441. Or 911 in case of any fires or injuries.
