In the heart of Palm Springs’ LGBTQ Arenas District, establishments including Blackbook, QuadZ, Hunters, Streetbar, Gaymart, and Chillbar are coming together to fundraise for the completion of the Palm Springs AIDS Memorial Sculpture (PSAMS). This endeavor is to honor those who have battled against the AIDS epidemic, “ensuring the lives of those lost to HIV and AIDS are never forgotten and that their stories are remembered into the future.”
The task force behind the memorial, driven by a shared determination, has embarked on an ambitious initiative to raise the remaining funds needed for the sculpture’s realization. The sculpture is designed by local artist Phillip K, Smith, III and will be placed in downtown Palm Springs in the Downtown Park located at Belardo Road and Museum Way. The sculptor will create a permanent memorial that would serve as a testament to love, remembrance, and the enduring strength of the community. “An HIV educational component, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment options is also being planned.”
The fundraising will be hosted from Thursday, August 31 to Thursday, September 7, 2023, Every contribution made on Arenas will be matched up to $15,000 by Craig Attebury and GayMart in memory of Tim Foutch.
