Indio, CA

One of the premier events for the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians is their annual powwow.

Cabazon is the host tribe — welcoming tribal people from across the USA and Canada.

The stated goals of this Powwow are the preservation of native language, and the retention of sacred songs and ancient traditions.

This dynamic, well organized event took place from November 29-30 & December 1, 2024.  Everyone is made welcome.

The Special Events Center of the Tribe’s Fantasy Springs Resort Casino is the location each year and admission is free.

This is a positive, high energy event, which includes Native American dance competitions for contestants of all ages, traditional bird singing, and drum contests.  Participants wear colorful regalia.

Visitors can chose to join in with dancers during non-competitive, inter-tribal dancing.

The Grand Entry was magnificent.

There was also a market place that encompassed makers and sellers of  hand-crafted jewelry, weaving, dream catchers, and other types of Native American arts and crafts.

Indian fry bread and other Native American food was also offered for sale.
