Palm Springs Fire Department Responded and Extinguished Fire
Palm Springs, CA
Residents of the Ramon Mobile Home Park are raising questions about fire safety after a fast-moving blaze damaged five homes and sent one person to the hospital last Saturday. Fire officials have since confirmed that there are no fire hydrants within the park itself — only along its perimeter.
The fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday at 1441 E. Ramon Road. When crews arrived, multiple mobile homes and several palm trees were already engulfed in flames. Five fire engines and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, working quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to additional homes.
Despite firefighters’ efforts, five mobile homes sustained damage, and one resident was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. It remains unclear how many people were displaced, but the American Red Cross is assisting those affected.

In the days following the incident, residents expressed concern over how the fire was fought, particularly regarding water access. Palm Springs Fire Department officials confirmed that the mobile home park lacks internal fire hydrants. Instead, hydrants are located only around the outside perimeter of the property — a design attributed to the park being constructed before modern fire code requirements were in place.
“There are no hydrants within the park boundaries,” said a fire department spokesperson on the scene. “This is not uncommon for older mobile home communities that predate current building and safety codes.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
As residents begin the long road to recovery, some are now calling for safety upgrades — including the possible addition of hydrants within the park — to prevent similar incidents in the future.
