Palm Springs, CA

The Palm Springs Fire Department is inviting residents and local businesses to take part in the early planning stages of a major modernization effort for Fire Station No. 1, beginning with the first of two community open houses on Monday, Feb. 23.

The open house marks the start of public outreach for the Fire Station No. 1 Modernization Project, aimed at addressing long-standing safety, space, and operational limitations at the historic facility.

“The current fire station is a Class 1 Historic building that is antiquated, not up to current safety standards and no longer fits the needs of our firefighters and growing community,” said Fire Chief Paul Alvarado. “It is imperative that we modernize and find the best location for fast and effective emergency services delivery. Everyone is invited to attend, learn more about the project, and provide feedback. Nothing has been decided yet and community input is essential.”

The first open house will be held at Fire Station No. 1, located at 277 N. Indian Canyon Drive, on Monday, Feb. 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Fire Chief Alvarado and fire department personnel, ask questions, share feedback, learn about conceptual designs and potential plans for the station, and tour the existing facility. Complimentary pizza and beverages will also be provided.

Additional community engagement is planned as the project moves forward. A City Council study session is being scheduled for March 11, with details to be announced. A second open house is set for Monday, March 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., again at Fire Station No. 1.
