Palm Springs, CA
The Palm Springs City Council will take up several items of community interest during its upcoming meeting on Wednesday, March 11, including a historic preservation hearing, funding for affordable housing, and updates on two proposed hotel developments.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Palm Springs City Hall, located at 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.
One of the key items on the agenda is a public hearing on whether to designate the Hal Forrest Residence as a historic property. Historic designation helps protect buildings with architectural or cultural significance and ensures that any future changes respect the original character of the structure.
Council members will also hold a public hearing on the 2026–2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding budget. The federal program provides money to cities to support projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents. Funds are often used for housing programs, neighborhood improvements, and community services.
Another major topic is funding related to the development and construction of a senior affordable housing project. The proposal is aimed at increasing housing options for older residents in Palm Springs, where demand for affordable housing continues to grow.
City staff will also provide updates on two proposed hospitality projects: the Dream Hotel and the Orchid Tree development. Both projects have been discussed in recent months as potential additions to Palm Springs’ tourism and hospitality landscape.
In a scheduling update, the March 11 City Council Study Session regarding Fire Station 1 has been postponed. City officials say a new date for that discussion will be announced at a later time.
Residents who wish to follow the meeting have several options. The public may attend in person, watch the meeting live on the City of Palm Springs YouTube channel, stream it through the city’s website at palmspringsca.gov, or view it on Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17.
