Palm Springs, CA
Greater Palm Springs will host a week-long celebration of community, culture, and advocacy as Lesbian Visibility Week takes place April 20–26, 2026. The regional observance brings together residents and visitors for a series of events honoring the contributions, stories, and visibility of lesbians, queer women, and non-binary individuals across the Coachella Valley.
The initiative is a collaboration between the The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, the LGBTQ History & Archives of the Desert, and Greater Palm Springs Pride. Programming is inspired by the national movement led by The Curve Foundation, which promotes recognition and equity for lesbian and queer women communities.

Organizers say the week is designed not only to celebrate identity and history, but also to encourage continued progress toward inclusion and representation. Events throughout the week will highlight art, storytelling, education, and social connection, while reinforcing a message that all members of the community deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.
The week begins Monday, April 20, with a public flag-raising ceremony at The Center in Palm Springs. Naomi Soto is expected to deliver an official proclamation recognizing the start of Lesbian Visibility Week in the city.
A key highlight arrives Tuesday, April 21, with the debut of the “Trailblazing Lesbians of the Coachella Valley” exhibit at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library. The exhibit honors influential local figures including Barbara Carpenter, Gail Christian, Lucy DeBardelaben, Ruth Debra, Marjorie Main, Joani Hannan, and Melinda Tremaglio. Organizers describe the installation as a tribute to the pioneers who helped shape the region’s LGBTQ+ community and paved the way for future generations.
Additional programming on Tuesday includes a morning coffee meetup and storytelling session at 4 Paws Coffee Co., followed by a Learning Lounge presentation at The Center led by Dr. Karyl Ketchum. The talk will examine health disparities affecting lesbians and explore ways communities can support one another locally.
Midweek events continue with a film screening night on Wednesday, April 22, at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. The evening will feature a documentary by filmmaker Tina Gordon alongside a presentation exploring queer female identity in film history.
On Thursday, April 23, attendees can gather for a wine tasting social at Palm Springs Bottle Shop, offering a relaxed setting for connection and conversation.
The celebration concludes over the weekend with a community meetup during the Big Gay BBQ on Arenas, hosted at Hunters in the Arenas District. The event invites lesbian and queer women to come together for a weekend of visibility, pride, and community engagement.
Organizers encourage the public to participate in as many events as possible and to learn more about the history and ongoing contributions of lesbian and queer women in the Coachella Valley. A full schedule of events is available through The Center’s website.
Lesbian Visibility Week in Greater Palm Springs highlights both the legacy and the future of a community that continues to shape the region’s cultural and social landscape.
