All good things must come to an end. This is the case with two popular furniture stores and business neighbors who have been located in Uptown Palm Springs serving the community for a number of years and, who have helped to bolster Modernism design, Pelago and Christopher Kennedy.
However, while one furniture store has closed for good, the other one is moving on in a different direction and location.
To put it bluntly, Pelago closed. This writer will no longer be able to purchase the matching bathroom accessories to go with the set he already purchased from the store a few months back. Was that too personal? All joking aside, the store which focused on modern furniture and accessories closed due to a well deserved retirement of the owners.

On their Facebook page, Bill & Mark, the owners of Pelago wrote, “IT’S A WRAP!!! NEXT STEP….RETIREMENT!!! Thank you to all of our friends, family, employees, vendors and most of all our customers who have supported our business over the last 30 years. It has been a wild ride full of many wonderful memories and experiences. Today, April 15, we will close the doors of Pelago Palm Springs to start our next exciting chapter. With gratitude, Bill & Mark”
Christopher Kennedy on the other hand, who has been in business for over 15 years and is going strong, has decided to close the uptown store to focus both on his core business, interior design and a better work life balance. The local designer and his cohort have leased a new design studio at 707 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way where they will incorporate some elements of their shop into their new space and continue to create exuberant and dazzling interiors throughout greater Palm Springs.
Kennedy noted that the closing of his former business next door neighbor Pelago, helped to prompt him forward in his decision to close the store. Both Pelago and Christopher Kennedy stores were highly prominent, drawing new and repeat customers to the area.
What’s next for the two storefronts at 901 N Palm Canyon Drive #101 and #105 that have big shoes to fill, have yet to be determined.
