Indio, CA

In a historic move for workers in the Low Desert, employees of the Indio Water Authority (IWA) have overwhelmingly voted to join Teamsters Local 1932, marking a major win in the ongoing fight for fair wages, better benefits, and improved working conditions. This decision represents a significant milestone in the growing union movement across the region.

The IWA employees, who are essential to delivering clean, reliable water to the residents and businesses of Indio, will now benefit from union representation, ensuring they have a collective voice in negotiating better terms for their labor. With this union win, IWA workers join other local public service employees, enhancing their bargaining power in an increasingly challenging economic landscape.

Randy Korgan, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 1932, expressed the significance of this victory, saying, “This victory is about dignity, respect, and a seat at the table for the hardworking men and women of Indio Water Authority. Public service workers are the backbone of our thriving cities, and we are proud to welcome them into our Teamsters family. Together, we will continue to fight for fair wages, stronger benefits, and workplace protections that allow these workers to thrive.”

With the addition of IWA employees to the union, Teamsters Local 1932 now represents a broader network of public sector workers, including those from Desert Water Agency and Coachella Valley Water District. This expansion strengthens the union’s ability to advocate for workers in the Low Desert, ensuring that the region’s essential water service workers are well-supported and protected.

Teamsters Local 1932 represents over 16,000 workers across the Inland Empire and remains committed to empowering public sector employees throughout the region. By uniting workers in industries that provide vital community services, the union strives to ensure that these employees are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

This development serves as another step forward in a growing worker power movement that is poised to reshape the future of labor rights and union influence in the region.
