The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will kick off the summer season Memorial Day Weekend with extended operating hours, guided nature walks, and a variety of educational summer programs at Mount San Jacinto State Park.
Beginning Friday, May 22 and continuing through Monday, Sept. 7, the Tramway will offer later evening hours every Friday and Saturday. The last tram up will depart at 9 p.m., while the final tram down will leave at 10:30 p.m.
Dining operations at the mountain station will also expand their hours for the summer season. Peaks Restaurant will offer its last seating at 8:45 p.m., while Pines Café will remain open until 9:30 p.m.
Special holiday hours will also be observed during Memorial Day Weekend. On Sunday, May 24, the Tramway will operate under extended evening hours with the last tram up at 9 p.m. and the final tram down at 10:30 p.m. On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, the first tram up will depart at 8 a.m., with the last tram up at 8 p.m. and the final tram down at 9:30 p.m.
Guided Nature Walks led by Mount San Jacinto State Park volunteers will return beginning Sunday, May 24, and continue every Sunday through Sept. 6. Visitors can choose between two guided trail experiences.
The Desert View Trail walk covers approximately 1½ miles and begins at 11 a.m., while the Long Valley Nature Trail is a shorter ¾-mile loop beginning at 1:30 p.m. Organizers said no advance registration is required, and participation is included with regular Tramway admission.
Additional educational and interpretive summer programming will also be offered through Mount San Jacinto State Park and the Natural History Association. The programs are designed to help visitors better understand the mountain environment and encourage responsible recreation within the State Park.
The Natural History Association will host additional summer events and educational activities throughout the season.
Opened in 1963, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway remains one of the Coachella Valley’s most visited attractions and is recognized as the world’s largest rotating tram car system. The Tramway transports visitors from the Valley Station at 2,643 feet to the Mountain Station at 8,516 feet in approximately 10 minutes while traveling through the cliffs of Chino Canyon.
