Palm Springs, CA
Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs is opening a new restaurant and bar on Friday October 30th called Marlowe’s Palm Springs. It sits next to the hotel’s pool in downtown Palm Springs.
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. It is open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations are now available, and walk-ins will be welcome.
Marlowe’s has an indoor dining room and a covered outdoor patio. The design uses plaster, terrazzo, walnut wood and a mirrored back bar. The hotel says the look draws from Avalon’s mid-century history and the desert around it.
The idea for the restaurant comes from Palm Springs in the 1950s and ’60s, when Hollywood stars came to the desert to get away. The hotel has three pools and views of the San Jacinto Mountains. The opening is part of a larger refresh of the hotel.
“We wanted to create a restaurant that feels connected to the history of the property,” said Robert Barnes, area general manager at Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs. He said it should also give locals and hotel guests “something new to come back to throughout the day.”
Chef Jeremy Grossman leads the kitchen. The menu changes through the day.
Breakfast: Dishes include a Garden Vegetable Omelette, Banana Pudding Pancakes, an Acaí Bowl and a Croque Madame. There is also a Cottage Cheese Bowl, which the hotel calls a nod to the old cottage cheese and pineapple dish. Drinks include cold-pressed juices, fruit smoothies, coffee and tea. A special mushroom coffee menu is also offered.

Afternoon: Poolside choices include Smoked Trout Toast, French Onion Dip, Panzanella Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad, The Marlowe Club and a Tuna Melt. The menu also has seasonal salads, bowls and flatbreads.

Dinner: Dishes include Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Melon Gazpacho, Trout Amandine, Steak Frites and Braised Short Rib. Gruyère and Swiss Fondue is served for the table. Desserts include Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Chocolate Fondue and citrus sorbets made with local fruit.

The bar offers rotating frozen cocktails by the pool. Other drinks include the PTO, which the hotel describes as a desert twist on the spritz, and the Hibiscus Tea Party. In the evening, the Melvyn’s Martini and other classic cocktails are served.
Proper Hospitality manages Marlowe’s. The company also runs Melvyn’s at Ingleside Estate, a nearby sister property. The hotel says Melvyn’s focuses on classic supper club style, while Marlowe’s is more relaxed and poolside.
Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs has 72 Spanish-style rooms, including studios and 13 private bungalows. It also has three pools and the Estrella Spa.
