PALM SPRINGS, CA
A restaurant space that once housed one of Palm Springs’ most celebrated dining destinations has entered a new chapter. Gertie’s Salon & Bar is operating permanently at 1122 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way inside the Living Out residential community.
The restaurant and cocktail lounge took over the space during the summer closure of Alice B., created by chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. In September, Alice B. announced it would not reopen. Gertie’s, already operating at the property, remained open under Living Out management.
Inspired by Gertrude Stein
Gertie’s takes inspiration from Gertrude Stein, whose Paris home hosted artists and writers in the early twentieth century. The Palm Springs concept combines a cocktail bar, restaurant and cultural salon, with live music, cabaret, storytelling, comedy and community events.
Living Out is a residential community for LGBTQ+ adults age 55 and older and their allies. Gertie’s welcomes visitors beyond the residential community.

What’s on the Menu?
The menu focuses on American comfort food, cocktails and shareable dishes. Its website highlights cheddar buttermilk biscuits with cardamom honey, shrimp cocktail, smoked gouda macaroni and cheese, and the Gertie’s Burger. The biscuits carry forward a favorite from Alice B.
Hours and Entertainment
Gertie’s advertises dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m., with happy hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and extended drinks-only happy hour Thursdays. The site labels its schedule summer hours, so visitors should confirm current hours. Complimentary valet parking is available. The restaurant phone number is 760-537-4311.
A Different Direction
Alice B. opened in 2023 and earned recognition in the 2026 Michelin Guide before announcing its closure. The chefs said their catering operations would continue in the Coachella Valley. Gertie’s places greater emphasis on cocktails, entertainment and community gatherings alongside dinner service.
