The 1988 film “Beetlejuice,” directed by Tim Burton, is a cult classic. The dark comedy revolves around the story of Adam and Barbara Maitland (portrayed by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), a recently deceased couple who find themselves trapped as ghosts in their own home. Struggling to accept their newfound afterlife, they cross paths with a mischievous spirit named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), who offers to help them scare away their new living occupants of their house.

The new living occupants are the Deetz family, Charles, Delia, and their teenage daughter Lydia, (played in order by Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara of “Schitt’s Creek” and Winona Ryder.) Adam and Barbara initially try to scare the Deetzes away, but their efforts are in vain.

Now, years later, Beetlejuice Part 2 is coming out with Coachella Valley’s own rising star Jenna Ortega playing the role of Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz’s daughter.

Ortega recently rose to fame playing Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s wildly popular show “Wednesday.” Other new castmates joining Beetlejuice 2 are Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci.

Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara are all coming back to reprise their iconic roles in Beetlejuice 2. Unfortunately Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are unlikely to return to the sequel.

Tim Burton who directed the original Beetlejuice will also be directing Beetlejuice 2.
