Palm Springs, CA

Tucked just behind the main downtown stretch on Palm Canyon, Canopy Wine Lounge and Restaurant features a comfortable patio facing the San Jacinto Mountains, with the Marilyn Monroe statue peeking through the trees.

When most people think of Canopy Wine Lounge, they think mainly of wine; however, that is only part of the story.

What has also taken shape in this upscale yet casual space, tastefully designed by local interior designer Christopher Kennedy, is a full dining experience, one meant for both locals and visitors to return to.

Interior of Canopy Wine Lounge and Restaurant

To get a real sense of the food at Canopy, a friend and I came in and tried a range of dishes across the menu, treating it less like a wine bar and more like a full dining destination. We are glad we did.

Every menu item is made from scratch. From the first appetizing bites of deviled eggs and spinach and artichoke dip (inspired by an 80’s party that was such a hit, it landed on the menu) to the main entrees like the short rib and puff pastry chicken pot pie, it became clear that this is a place meant to be explored over time.

Chef Kristin, who we had the chance to chat with, shared that the menu changes with the seasons, offering new and interesting varieties for those who return to dine again. She came to the culinary world later in life after starting her career on Wall Street, moving to LA for her intended career in TV, then later went to the Culinary Institute of America in NAPA leading to her love of food and wine. Each dish is intentional, reflecting her thoughtful approach, something we experienced firsthand while talking with her.

The starters are built for sharing and conversation. Items like sourdough with herb butter and egg yolk confit, deviled eggs with cheddar cheese and cherry pepper, and a Mediterranean-inspired mezze platter set the tone. The charcuterie and artisanal cheeses highlight local and curated ingredients, reinforcing the idea that this is a place to gather and linger.

Salads balance freshness with depth. A lacinato kale Caesar with espelette pepper dressing and focaccia croutons sits alongside more layered options like roasted beets with herb couscous, marinated artichokes, and feta. Even something as simple as fried green tomatoes is elevated with creamy dill dressing and ricotta salata.

The entrees lean into comfort food, inspired by the Palm Springs community itself but with thoughtful twists that make them stand out. Brandt short ribs are paired with horseradish celeriac puree and merlot demi-glace, while the hatch chile turkey meatloaf brings in a subtle kick of spice. The spinach lasagna offers a vegetarian option rooted in classic flavors, and the chicken pot pie, wrapped in puff pastry, delivers the kind of dish that feels both nostalgic and refined again, all made from scratch.

One of the most talked-about items is the French onion grilled cheese, a creative take on the classic soup, served alongside carrot soup. It captures exactly what Chef Kristin is aiming for, familiar flavors reimagined in a way that pairs seamlessly with wine.

Desserts keep things simple but satisfying, from an orange pound cake with fig and date sauce to a burnt Basque cheesecake with blackberry gastrique.

What ties it all together is thoughtful intention. Chef Kristin even makes her own green garlic powder in-house, a small detail that speaks to her larger commitment to quality and craft.

Just as important, the menu has been shaped in part by the Palm Springs community itself. Feedback and local preferences have helped guide the direction toward comfort-driven dishes that still allow room for creativity and wine pairing.

Now, let’s talk about the wine, because this is, at its core, a wine lounge. Canopy offers a wide variety of wines, including selections from its own vineyards, with estate-grown bottles known for their exceptional quality. Beer and cider are also available, along with a curated list of cocktails and mocktails.

We would be remiss not to mention that Canopy Wine Lounge and Restaurant keeps its kitchen open until 9:30 p.m. on many nights during the season, which is considered late for many restaurants in Palm Springs so this writer recommends you grab a glass of wine, a cocktail, or a mocktail, order some food, and settle in.

Canopy Wine Lounge and Restaurant is located at 175 N Palm Canyon Dr Suite 150, Palm Springs, CA 92262 and can be found online, here.
