PALM SPRINGS, Calif.

The Palm Springs City Council will open its Wednesday meeting with a special ceremony to swear in Kyle Stjerne as the city’s new Chief of Police.

Stjerne, a 24-year veteran of the Palm Springs Police Department, will be formally sworn in and presented with his badge before the council turns to its regular agenda.

Following the ceremony, council members are set to discuss several items of community interest. Among them is a 10-day moratorium report on a proposed ordinance that would temporarily ban data centers within the city.

The council will also consider the donation of the original Morris Kight Memorial Plaque and an LGBTQ Service Member marker to the LGBTQ History & Archives of the Desert.

Additional agenda items include a status report on the Dream Hotel project, a service agreement with Caravanserai to implement a small business support program, and an update from the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on the mayoral position.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Palm Springs City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.
